Mark emails as Done
Done is Primail’s name for archive. The conversation leaves Inbox and moves to the account’s Archive folder. The mail is still on the provider and still searchable. It is not deleted.
Mark as Done
Section titled “Mark as Done”- Keyboard: E. The menu also uses ⌘E.
- Toolbar: Done in the reader header (disabled if already archived).
- Trackpad: default short swipe toward Done. Remap under Settings → Swipes.
⌘⇧E is Mark All Done: every visible non-archived row in the current list, not the whole server mailbox.
A toast offers Undo for 5 seconds. After that, ⌘Z can still undo if the action remains among the fifty recent session entries. See Undo the last action.
Where it goes
Section titled “Where it goes”Primail uses the account’s Archive folder.
- Gmail / Google Workspace: usually
[Gmail]/All Mailwhen the server has no Archive mailbox. - iCloud, Fastmail, Migadu, Outlook.com: the folder the account listed as Archive, often named Archive.
The exact folder name comes from that account, not from a fixed table in this page.
Done vs Delete
Section titled “Done vs Delete”| Done | Delete | |
|---|---|---|
| Leaves Inbox | Yes | Yes |
| Archive / All Mail | Yes, when that folder exists | No |
| Trash | No | Yes |
| Shortcut | E | Delete |
Use Done to keep mail and clear Inbox. Use Delete when you want Trash. How long Trash keeps mail is your provider’s policy. Primail does not enforce a 30-day timer.
A failed provider move is reported. It is not silently undone.
Several messages
Section titled “Several messages”Select two or more visible rows and press Archive in the reader. E still archives only the focused conversation. See Bulk actions.
Agents
Section titled “Agents”There is no primail_mark_done tool. Use email_archive with
account_id and message_ids. A receive-only account can still
archive. See Account roles and the
MCP tool reference.
