Print an email

Print or save a copy of one open message. This build does not print a whole thread.

  1. Open the message in the reading pane.
  2. Press ⌘P, or choose Print… from the detail overflow menu.
  3. Use the OS print dialog. On macOS, Save as PDF… is an OS option. Opening Print does not create a file until you save one.

The print view includes subject, From, To, Cc, date, and a sanitized copy of the body. Remote images follow the current message image policy. Very large bodies can be truncated instead of printed.

From the same overflow menu, Export To… offers:

  • PDF (via Print…) — the same OS print path, with remote images stripped. Choose Save as PDF… in the dialog if you want a file.
  • HTML file — a local sanitized HTML copy.
  • Markdown file — a Markdown copy of the stored message.
  • Copy as Markdown is a separate overflow item.

If you need the original message file from the server, download it from your mail provider. A Primail .eml export is rebuilt from the stored copy and is not that original archive. The reader menu does not list EML.
